Joel,
Very professional, TV-quality show, worthy of network/cable broadcast. All the things I had missed (and commented on) in the commercial/promo video were here in the intro of the show. Wow! It was riveting. Very person-oriented. You made us care about these people. My only criticism, which isn’t a criticism at all, is that I wanted more. You made me want more. And that’s how you keep people coming back.
Bravo!

B-O-R-I-N-G . . . . . . . . just a Donald wannabe and the faulty premise
this is actually going to help the rest of us make millions?

Great show! I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next episode.

Sorry but was not impressed, finger down throat job typical hype.

Awesome first episode, Joel! I can’t wait to see the next one. The production quality and editing is excellent. Looking forward to the building excitement in the next program.
August 17th, 2007 at 9:08 pm
Somewhat entertaining but completely useless.
There is no way how anyone can learn anything from this.
This is cut/cut and cut so there is not any real information giving.
This is just another dinner table time waister.
Those 51 minutes should be spend on doing action on learning something.
I am really disappointed. All that time I was expecting that I will learn something from it but instead this is just another reality show for my wife to watch with one eye doing kitchen chores.
August 17th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Excellent! Keep up the good work
August 17th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
I’m undecided as to what I like or dislike about the first show.
I believe you’re looking for a potential JV partner, so you’re
looking for a person with certain qualities to bring to the JV.
So the first quality would be an entreprenuerial mindset followed
closely by teamwork. I don’t believe you can honestly ferret out
those qualities quickly. There must be a lot behind the scenes that
we did not see due to the time limit.

Overall the first show is OK! However, I know there is time to improve since it wasn’t filmed by a major movie studio. Below are my recommendations to improve the show:
1 - Get rid of all the distracting and really annoying music in the background! This really takes away from the show!
2 - The audio is very poor. There is too much background noise! When you hear the cast members speak, it sounds like they are in big hall. It’s difficult to listen to them. Are the cast members wearing their own microphones?
4 - Something isn’t flowing with your show. The editing is very choppy. Highly recommend benchmarking the Apprentice to see how they edit their show. The Apprentice flows better. Why re-invent the wheel!
5 - This episode is way too long for the content shown. Cut out a lot of the “fluff” and get to the point of each scene. The 51-minute show should have been cut down to 25 minutes!
Overall it’s a decent start, however, there is a lot of room for improvement. I’m sure you guys will improve!
August 17th, 2007 at 11:51 pm
I’ve watched the show twice now and I noticed a lot of distracting
noise. It was at times difficult to hear what was being said.
Perhaps you could add more written text at the bottom of the screen.
I had the pre-conception that this would be an educational show.
It may be educational for the contestants, but the first show had
no real educational value for the viewer.
I realise that this is a competition, but as a viewer it would
be nice to know what the rules are and where this is headed.
How about telling the viewers what the overall game plan is so
we’re not lost as to what’s happening.
Maybe the next show will present more of what’s happening with
the learning process the contestants are experiencing and will
provide the web viewer with insights as to what it takes to be
‘in the online game’ to win a JV partnership with you.

Joel-
Wow! You know I am one of your biggest fans and the quality of this show is just one of the reasons why. If everyone really sat down and watched this show (this and the episodes to follow), I am sure that the education and mentorship the contestants are receiving, could explode your business to heigher heights.
Joel, I can’t wait for more. If this show were on television, it would certainly be on my “TIVO radar”
Thanks again for the knowledge and wisdom you share each and every day for your friendship.

We do not watch reality shows. I dislike them intensely, because we live
“reality”, I do not have to watch reality. Thanks anyway.

Yes that is what I said.
August 18th, 2007 at 4:17 am
Hi Joel,
First impressions very like the Apprentice not a bad thing I like the
Apprentice.
Looking at previous comments I must say that I thought we would learn a
little more on what to do but perhaps that will come I understand that you
needed to establish a lot in the fist episode.
I am a great fan of Mark Joyner and am a Simpleology member myself. Though
this was a good one for first episode.
And you won me over at the very end with the Sandbox idea, I think everyone
was very nervous and their best did not shine through way to go.
I will be waiting and watching for the next episode.

Well worth the wait. I really enjoyed it! Joel Comm was excellent, and I thought the editing was top-notch.
Bravo, Brava, Bravi! …to the production team AND the contestants. I’m sure that it was an incredibly nerve-wracking first day and that everyone will settle in a bit more as the episodes progress.
I must say though, the whole “women lead the busiest lives” rant came off as an argument that women’s lives are busier than any other segment of society. As a woman, I felt extremely uncomfortable during those scenes, especially as the whole “women are this, women are that” rigmarole got shoved down our throats from some of the contestants’ soapboxes. By the time it got communicated to Mark Joyner in the presentation, I think I was hiding under my desk. (Wait. Desk? Not watching T.V. on a couch? Joel Comm, you’re a new media pioneer in doing this show, and I just wanted to make note of that as the critics crawl out to nitpick.)
I was impressed at how tactfully Mark Joyner shot the whole illogical argument down (especially since his facial expressions read, “what the H*LL are you talking about?!”) and pointed out that women buying more products does not necessarily mean they would buy Simpleology. No doubt he could have said MUCH more in the way of criticizing the team’s decision (mandate?) to target this market.
It all started when, in the Bullseye team’s initial brainstorm, Thor asked, “what target market would benefit the most from this product?”…That threw Debbie into “push personal agenda” mode–and it was all down hill from there. Poor Nico and Charles didn’t stand a chance. (And funny enough, in the presentation, their opening statements qualified them as ideal targets for the Simpleology–Hello!? NOT women, NOT over 40: just ambitious, lone-ranger entrepreneurs creating and running online businesses/ventures all the while juggling busy lives…even school).
Carly didn’t stand a chance up against the other two women either, and I think she was just being respectful and going along with where the tides were unfortunately rolling. If her strong suit is writing copy, then I think it should have been noted that she did make a valuable contribution. Stepping up to the plate to handle the difficult task of copywriting is very commendable and takes actual skill. Most people would run the other direction.
After Debbie so graciously “volunteer[ed]” her target market, the fact that the production team then cut immediately to a scene where Jason Henderson was (jokingly) accused of a shameless plug (for playing audio on a website that we, the audience, could barely hear) was either subtly intentional and cleverly edited, or just insanely ironic. Either way, I thought it was hilarious.
The contestant who impressed me the most to win this competition is Jason Marshall. Many more weeks to go though! Alisande is also shaping up to be a MAJOR contender. Her focus seems razor sharp.
LOVED the boardroom scene, and the sandbox twist was a fantastic surprise. I can’t wait until next week (and am sure Armand Morin will be a treat!)
And hey: Were the opening clips perhaps hinting that we have a political debate between Thor and Nico to look forward to? I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Bring on the DRAMA, Joel!
~JP
P.S. Rock on Cresta — you were fabulous!
August 18th, 2007 at 8:16 am
I have a background in network TV production, so these comments are based on
solid experience. I want to be helpful, and to do that it might sound
critical. I admire the attempt to innovate here, but this concept has
failed on a number of levels in my view.
The show is obviously modelled on ‘The Apprentice’ but unfortunately Joel
should have realized that it’s impossible to clone a TV show with a MUCH
bigger budget and production experience. And because it’s such a close
copy of The Apprentice, viewers are forced to think about the comparison,
and there is no comparison. It would have been better to go about the show
in a completely different way, because ‘The Next Internet Millionaire’ is
very poorly executed in terms of production quality and content.
1) The contestants should have had individual radio microphones. Not even
Joel was miked up for many segments, and the audio was very poor as
a result (as others have also noted). Audio comprises 60% of the quality of
a viewers perception of a production, so this was a major flaw. If viewers
have to strain to hear what people are saying, they get frustrated and lose
interest. This is what happened here.
2) The lighting on set was inconsistent. If this was a budget issue, the
filming could have been done outside where lighting is MUCH easier to deal
with, daylight is easy to work with. Look at the boardroom scene where
some contestants faces are hard to see and others are over exposed. It was
a major distraction, and again, only forces the comparison to The Apprentice
where all these details are taken care of by an expert production crew.
As for content, I was left unsure what the purpose of this show is about.
There was no solid meaty information included, and not even any entertainment.
Perhaps that comes in later episodes? The problem is, I don’t think I’ll
watch any more.
August 18th, 2007 at 8:18 am
I think most of it has been said well by Patrick, sounds was poor and took away from the enjoyment. I am not sure what the problem was, can’t really put my finger on it, perhaps too disjointed, didn’t carry a real strong message for us wanting some education from this but I will watch the next show cause I’m sure you will improve based on the comments here. Thanks for the effort.

Not bad. I like the video and audio work.
A nice mix of contestants from free spirit to pure business minded.
It should be very interesting to watch them learn from the experts.
August 18th, 2007 at 10:32 am
i am realy looking forward to watch it.
August 18th, 2007 at 12:17 pm
I vote for non-fiction and reality shows cos I can
learn from them and place practical real-life
lessons to real-life use. Cos my life is real!
I have read Napolean Hill’s and Jim Rohn’s books
and they are good. I think Joel and the contestants
can provide something in life’s lessons.
There are of course those who prefer to read
fantasy books and shows. And that’s alright too.
August 18th, 2007 at 12:47 pm
Joel, I love the show. Can’t wait for the other episodes. Since it is
online, do you think you can have an editional video room on specific
speakers you have on your show. Simpleology sounds great, and I think
everyone would like to hear more. To give all your members a video class on
simpleology, you would be not only educating your members, but giving them
a taste of the individual classes they can take.
WELL DONE!!!
August 18th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
Hi Joel.
I’m on your mailing list, I’ve even been an affiliate of yours, but deep down i’ve had this inbuilt British thing which is to ‘doubt’ the yanks sincerity and sometimes their integrity.
Perhaps it’s the ‘brashness’ that comes over as ‘cockiness’ I don’t know.
with Mark Joyner i’ve bought products of his including resell rights for some of his products. I’ve been a member of his ‘Simpleology’ since it first started, but I’ve never given myself the focus or determination to take it on board. i get too easily distracted by other things that entice me; Like E-mals from you Joel offering unbelievable product and affiliate propositions which I the fly off and try ‘unsuccessfully’ to promote.
Not that your products are duff. Just that ‘I AM DUFF’ at focusing and following simple instructions.
This 1st episode has really opened my eyes. I’ve seen the ‘Apprentice’ programmes. Both Donald Trump and Alan Sugars versions, they get me fired up a bit and I enjoy the entertainment value. But I honestly feel THIS programme has taken the concept up a couple of levels at least. Especially in the professional presentation. The only negative I would throw is the ‘background noise’ is overwhelming at times, leading to missing some of the vocals.
I hope that we in the other parts of the world are going to be able to keep up with the series in such a convenient manner as THIS.
May I wish you the very best,
Pete Moring.
August 18th, 2007 at 3:42 pm
Joel,
Well done! There is a Higher Purpose and Greater Reward awaiting!
I have my vote for your JV partner already!
Your intelligent production allows you to vicariously share important information to the world. For you Joel, your beliefs are important to carry to the world. However, there was only one person of the 12 contestants that offer anything of similar proportion.
The comment made by this contestant, ” I think the American People Have been Grossly Mislead ” is one of the most important messages that needs to brought the everyone’s attention. Kudos to you both if you proceed in these directions.
My mind is wondering about this statement. It instantly recalls a few things online that people should become aware about to learn about how “the American People Have Been Grossly Mislead”. This is important for everyone:

August 18th, 2007 at 6:15 pm
I thought the show started off slow, as an average person it was not immediately clear to me what it was all abot. Mr. Comm came off as somewhat arrogant. As for the contestants, at the point I have no real idea as to their experience in internet marketing, but some of them seem to have alot of talent as leaders and speakers. I am curious as to why Mr. Schrock was targeted for negative outtakes and criticism. He seemed to be a very good speaker. As for the women in the group, I was somewhat irritated that they seemed to think they knew all about women and the internet. I am a housewife and spend a large amount of time on the internet, but wasn’t part of their target group. That would be a costly mistake.
August 18th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
Be fair to all participants in your video outtakes.
August 18th, 2007 at 6:27 pm
Hi Joel,
I think you’ve done a very good job putting this together and I found
myself actually feeling nervous for the contestants so I’d say that’s
a good baromometer for my engagement in the show.
I think some of the other people who commented are being pretty harsh
with their criticism. My hat is off to you for being the first witrh a
show like this on the Internet.
That said, I do hope the future episodes contain more “meat”. I am a
fairly successful Internet marketer now and to continue watching this
I want to be learning, not just be entertained (only three sources of power
you know, and time is most precious!).
I too love the sandbox concept! Love to see that you have a heart!
Keep up the excellent work!

Great job Joe and Eric!
This was very nice guys. Video quality stuff. Compared to the Donald Trump’s apprentice show, I think your show definitely showed more of a team work experience instead of a cut throat you are fired type experience. The sandbox idea is great too. It was very nice to see the one of team’s cohesiveness and being able to work together. Anyways, that was awesome guys!

I found thenectinternetmillionaire through Dave Brown’s podcasting site and have
to say that what Joel says on there is spot on - the production quality is great
considering the budget is only $400,000.
The content of the show is ok so far, though I think it was probably drawn out a
bit too much - 30 minutes may have staved off a bit of boredom at the end.
Also, the ’sandbox’ makes it seem a bit cosy - will anyone actually be going home
after the next episode?

I was very impressed with the overall production. The Next Internet Millionaire obviously is a
takeoff of some other very successful shows and that’s just fine; why reinvent the wheel…right?
I think the BIG difference in you marvelous show is that it appears to be a real teaching tool. So,

Thanks for a great show, as I look forward to the next episode.

view and plans to out wit their opponents. The only other way is to be a contestant. As a matter
of fact how our they chose. Could I qualify ? Will requesting a contestant status jerperdize
anything. The Show is very interesting as I have said. I love to see just how I would do. I hope

Joel,
We learned about The Next Internet Millionaire from Heather Vale. Thanks Heather:)
We overall enjoyed the episode. Looks like you have a good group of contestants. Only fault, which was mentioned by others, is the sound issues. The biggest problem is the soundtrack which at times overwhelms anyone speaking. Maybe having everyone individually miced would help with that.
All in all though it was entertaining.
Dana L.C.
August 20th, 2007 at 12:58 am
Hi Joel & Eric,
I enjoyed the first episode… yeah, the sound quality could have been better, but at least you had subtitles for those parts.
The comment that everybody should have worn their own microphone was spot on… but of course now two late was the shooting has been finished.
Some people here complained about the lack of educational value to the viewer… I can’t agree with that.
Here are the takeaways I noticed in episode one…
1. In order to get a JV, presentation skills are important… you need to be able to quickly and clearly communicate to a potential JV partner.
2. To be successful with anything we do, we need to follow the law of straight lines and stay 100% focused on what’s important to achieve our goals.
3. When working in a team, individual skills need to be taken into consideration. Brute force leadership as well as wimpy leadership will not get the best results.
And I am sure there is even more then those 3 examples.
Anyway… I am looking forward to see the next episode.
Best regards,

I have been anxiously awaiting the first episode of “The Next Internet Millionaire”…it didn’t
disappoint. I followed the audition process and believe that you have probably chosen some of the
brightest internet stars on the horizon. The quality of the production was outstanding and to the
caliber of any network television reality show. The one element the Internet Millionaire has that
other reality shows do not, is it’s ability to introduce internet products to those of us who are just
beginning the internet marketing journey. At times the show dragged…the “judgement room” scene was
sort of drawn out. I hope to see the drama build a bit more and I am sure it will as the contestants
get to know one another and the competition becomes more fierce. I believe that every one was being
so nice to one because it was the first day..first challenge. I look forward to the rest of the
episodes and wish everyone luck as they work toward becoming “The Next Internet Millionaire”.

Seeing how others are applying Simple•ology is most fascinating. This series will make history! Yes, indeed Joel Comm is a better roll model than Donald Trump. It was a surprise to see the 2 eliminated are still present to learn, i.e. the Sand Box. I have a Sand Box —my simple•ology webcockpit. Thanks, Mark Joyner, it is making more sense.

Same old thing …..
I thought we’d see more of Mark Joyner putting accross his simpleolegy bible and somebody contesting some parts of it. There was no passion, no debate, no arguements. Its like Simpleolegy is WOW great Mark, we all love it….but then they have to say that to stay in the competition. I’m, looking forward to somebody challenging some of the gurus on aspects of what they do….not everything is perfect

I like the show. It is entertaining and I’ll watch all the episodes.
There are issues with sound and such but I think over all it’s great.
Perhaps some on-person mics should be worn at all times with a sound tech verifying volumes for them all to ensure all audio channels are coming in.
One thing I hope is that none of these contestants follow any of these steps!!

I was excited to find that you’ve actually put together the TV program and will certainly look for upcoming shows.
However, I found the actual content of the show too much of a copy of Donald Trump’s Apprentice. That’s not an entirely bad thing, but insofar as Trump has a rock-solid brand, it’s easily identifiable (kinda like McDonald’s arches), and probably not a good subject to copy (so strongly). If you think that criticism is unbalanced, I should mention that I really enjoyed the brief moment where Armand spoke to the contestants.
His delivery was clearly fresh, straightforward, and of certain value! Joel was great also, but because of his glasses and the fact that he’s a few pounds overweight (accented by white pants), he gives the impression of being a “geek.” He doesn’t sound like one, and does not present himself poorly, and being a geek is not necessarily bad (so is Bill Gates) — it’s just that I find the image of a geek inconsistent with the rest of what the program conveys (i.e., the next internet millionaire is clean, young, professional, etc.).
As far hosting the show is concerned, I think Armand would air much stronger than Joel.
As far as content is concerned, I think the show would do well to incorporate much much of “the best of the internet entrepreneurs” and what they have to teach the young contestants about doing business on the net.
Further, I think the “judgment room” aspect of the show especially mimics Trump’s board room (where contestants are asked to defend themselves), and for that reason, should be re-vised . . . certainly someone’ll need to go each week, but that could be more authentically determined by way of a contest where they’re asked to earn money or get signups or something of value online. The audience could be asked to participate as well, by way of calling in and voting for which site they like the best . . . then too, maybe you could add a few intermediate level contestants (semi-pros) to help slap together a blog when needed.
Not sure about much else, but I think my harshest criticism has to do with the fact that this show copies too much from other shows we’ve already seen and for that reason leaves itself open to being ignored more than the fundamental idea (an internet millionaire contest, which is absolutely GREAT) deserves to be.
August 30th, 2007 at 5:02 pm

Great Cocept,Ideas and Effort.
You out-trumped Trump.

perhaps a little more instructional

I love the show! However, I prefer to download it and the .MOV format just isn’t the best to use. Could you please post an additional format like .WMV as well for future episodes? Thanks!

Another excellent show…the second episode had a brisker pace…I would have
liked to have heard all the presentations in the Hacker Safe segment,
especially since we heard most of the topics. The Judgement Room started to drag
a bit…until you got to the controversy between the members. I am not getting a good feel
about all the contestants…started to root for Jason last time, but saw little to
none of him this episode…where’s Christine Schaap? Saw her…I haven’t heard much from her other
than the topic she chose, but then didn’t hear her presentation. I think all the contestants
need to speak on each episode not just seen…at least a good sound bite…I would also like to
hear a bit more from the winning team after they win. We need to celebrate with the winning
team for a few seconds…then to The Judgement Room. You definately have some personalities
we need to see them all though…not just the annoying and pushy ones. Looking forward to the
next episode.

I’m happy to see the 2nd episode was much better. Audio was much better. My only advice is to still cut it down some more. Some scenes are way too long and dragged out. Cut more footage out! It the scene is boring move on to the next. Just my opinion!

I am really enjoying the show. Alot of pressure, I enjoy that. The “judgement room” really brings out the strengths and weaknesses in all the contestants. This show is giving a realaty look at what it takes to become an internet millionair. Bravo! to Joel, Armand & Jasua you were all very professional in your presentations and concept of this show.

Loved the 2nd episode…it was so much better then the first. Congrats to Charles Trippy..I think he
has lots of potential and I pray that he will become the next internet millionaire. I also think that
The 8ft giant needs to go home..He really brings the show down with his backstabbing behavior. Cant
wait to see the next episode! Good luck
